Acts 1

by Lon on March 9, 2009

- Theophilus from what I understand was the person, likely with power and authority, to commission Luke to investigate and record his findings in Luke’s gospel as well as Acts.
- Jesus spent a bonus 40 days speaking about ‘the kingdom of God’
- Disciples respond asking when “the kingdom of Israel” will be restored – all this and they still don’t get it.
- They don’t get it, yet Jesus still entrusts them with the Spirit and his mission
- ‘white robes’ just wouldn’t fly today
- the analogies don’t quite work right when you relate the kingdom to heaven, with the multiple references to going ‘up’ or ‘in’ to heaven
- The disciples devoted themselves to prayer along with the mother and brothers of Jesus
- Peter ‘stood up’ – maybe it wouldn’t be so hard for Peter, but still an act of courage
- What’s with the details on Judas and his bowels?
- The casting of lots is an interesting combination of human decision and openness to God’s will
- Barsabbas, also known as Justus, forever got the short end of the stick – He was this close, I wonder what he did afterwards?  Did this technically exclude him from anything?
