Testing out some side forms of revenue, and developing my web skills a bit, I decided to try experimenting with niche blogging. Having a very focused the-go-to-blog seems to be the way to go in the massiveness of the cybersphere.
So how am I going about it?
1. I found something that I had a personal interest in, that was slightly off-beat. When word of Monopoly City Streets came out, and I found out there was so much demand their servers were crashing, I figured that might be a good one to try. Monopoly’s been a game I loved since childhood, so it should be fun to write about as well.
2. I grabbed a domain name for $8.88, and carved out some of existing space on a hosted server. I make about a grand a year on my other blog, so I’m fairly certain I could at least recoup that cost and hopefully a bit more. I purchased http://monopolyhq.com Hopefully short and to the point enough.
3. I did a very quick design using WordPress and the Thesis framework. I made sure I had all the write tags and meta info and submitted it to search engines. I wish I thought of the idea a bit earlier, as it takes about 10 days on average to get listed.
4. I wrote a few posts, integrated some auto-generated feeds, and off we go. I plan on slapping on some ads in a few months once (hopefully) traffic picks up. And I’ll update the niche blogging journey here.
